About us
T-Shirt City has been part of Northern Ireland’s seaside story for over fifty years. Founded in 1972 by Phyllis Niblock, the business began in a small kiosk in the Arcadia in Portrush. Her then boyfriend, Hugh, began to lend a hand and the rest is history. With hard work, creativity and a growing reputation for quality, the Niblocks soon moved into their first shop on Causeway Street. In 1985, T-Shirt City settled into its current home in the heart of Portrush’s Main Street—a spot that has welcomed generations of families every summer since.
What started as a summer venture by the sea has grown into one of Northern Ireland’s best-known names in personalised clothing. Today, T-Shirt City operates from its Portrush shop as well as a Belfast premises, offering custom t-shirts, sweatshirts, hoodies, caps and more.
During the busy summer months, our Portrush shop is filled with returning visitors—families who’ve made designing their own holiday t-shirts a tradition. Throughout the rest of the year, we work closely with schools, sports teams, charities, businesses, and stag and hen groups to create personalised garments for every occasion.
For many years, Hugh brought T-Shirt City on the road, travelling the length and breadth of Ireland with a mobile unit. From Puck Fair and Ballinasloe Horse Fair to the Auld Lammas Fair and Nutts Corner Market, his friendly spirit and passion for what he did helped make T-Shirt City a familiar sight at events across the country.
Although Hugh sadly passed away in 2022, the business continues to thrive under Phyllis’s guidance, still driven by the same values of family, quality, and friendly service that shaped its early days.
With over half a century of experience, T-Shirt City remains proud to help customers create memories—one personalised design at a time.
